GRAND SLAM REGATTA

SUNDAY REPORT

Conditions were much different on Sunday with sunny skies and unfortunately, lighter pressure. We played the waiting game and managed to stage one DN race around 11:00 AM in the lightest of air that made for some fine finess sailing. The Minnesota ice boating contingent was well represented by Mark "The Doctor" Christensen who continued his winning streak into Sunday and won the Grand Slam DN fleet title.
Light air Renegade master, George Gerhardt, was ready to push off Frozen Assets in his conditions but the Race Committee decided to call the regatta complete given the wind forecast and so that our out of town guests could get on the road home. Congratulations to George Gerhardt for winning the Renegade Grand Slam title.

Thanks to all who took the time to come and sail in our fun regatta. It was a great kick off to our local season and we look forward to sailing with all of you again soon.

SATURDAY REPORT

The view from Springers
A fantastic day on the ice. Wind was more than the 10mph forecasted and the 1.5 inches of fluffy snow did not have any impact on the day's racing. Ice was smooth and fast with no pushing. We all enjoyed a break at Springer's. One of the stories of the day is the surprising appearance of Commodore Don Anderson's "Florida" Renegade in the last Renegade race where he powered to the front and won, the first time in over 15 years that the boat has been on the ice. We'll be back tomorrow for the conclusion of the Grand Slam. Many thanks to my off site scoring partner, Mary Jane Schalk, who sends the results to us so quickly.

December 29-30, 2012
Lake Kegonsa in Wisconsin

Grand Slam regatta is called ON for December 29-30, 2013.
DO NOT DRIVE ON THE ICE!
Classes: DNs, Nites, Renegades, and Skeeters.
Location: Lake Kegonsa
Registration: Register on the ice with Deb Saturday morning from 8:30-9:30.
Free to any paid 4LIYC member and for anyone who wants to become a member for this year by paying their $20 (then they are paid for all 4LIYC events this season.
$10 for those who just want to race this weekend. The Grand Slam regatta DOES count for regular club racing. We will be club racing on Tuesday, January 1st so stick around for the fun.
Landings:
1. Pleasant Springs Boat Landing 2257 Williams Point Drive, Stoughton, WI
Link to map
We recommend this landing for the Skeeters, Nites, and Renegades. This landing has the largest parking area. Stay towards the right of the landing because there’s a creek to the left. Please roll trailers on. Bring some cash because there's a daily launching and park fee of $4. Look for the deposit box. Your Dane County Lake Access permit does not apply here.

2. Amundson Landing (Also known as Quam Landing) Quam Drive at South Quam Drive, Stoughton, WI
Link to map.
This is a small landing with very limited parking. Vehicles with attached trailers are not allowed to park in the surrounding neighborhood.

3. Springers 3097 Sunnyside St., Stoughton, WI
Link to map.
Springers (formerly Sunnyside) is a nice restaurant and bar on the east side of Lake Kegonsa. Sadly, the DNR closed down their boat launch a few years ago. However, it would be possible to carry a DN hull and equipment to the ice from their parking lot. Springers is a great venue for those who want to come and watch ice boats racing.
